Miyama is best known in the Kansai region for its famous Thatched Roof Village, "Kayabuki no Sato". But Miyama has so much more to offer than this iconic destination.

This blog was created to help visitors discover and enjoy the many hidden sides of Miyama beyond the Thatched Roof Village.

Through the unique perspective of a foreigner living in the area, I share the small stories, local culture, and everyday moments that make Miyama truly special. My hope is that this blog will help you uncover the deeper charm of Miyama.

Deep in the mountains of Kyoto
time flows slowly.

Beautiful mountains lay in the misty fog.
Crystal clear rivers run through the mountains.
Small villages dot along the valleys.
People live quietly and earnestly there.
There is something here that Japan has discarded.

Beautiful real mountain village
that you hardly find
in Japan

There are no railways,
no supermarkets,
no convenience stores.
All you find is stunning nature,
the people who live alongside the beautiful yet harsh nature,
and the untouched Japanese landscape that remains there.
Welcome to Miyama,
real Japanese countryside.
